Gates

There are three basic types of gate - Swing, track sliding and cantilever.

Swing
Swing gates swing from gudgeons fixed to a post or wall. Gate wings can be single, double or bifolding.  Gates can open 90 degrees or 180 degrees. Wings are secured in the open or closed position by drop bolts (double or bifolding) and locked by chain and padlock, lock plate and padlock, padbolt, D latch or lever action lock.
This is the most popular and least expensive gate style. The site needs to be relatively flat and have sufficient room for the gate to swing.  It is possible to engineer wings to open up or down a slight slope with special hinges and/or wheels.
Gates can be automated.

Sliding (Track)
Each gate wing is fitted with two grooved wheels which slide on inverted V angle tracks fixed to the ground or concreted into a concrete bond beam.  Gates are either single or double. Site must allow for the track to be installed flat and level and have sufficient room for the gate to slide open.
More expensive than swing gates but sites must be suitable.
Gates can be automated.

Sliding (Cantilever)
Each gate wing is one third longer than the gate gap and is fixed to a special cantilever beam by a roller carriage.  The cantilever beam is concreted on the closing side of the gate gap and the gate closes across the gap suspended above the ground.
More expensive than a tracked sliding gate but the major advantage is that there is no track over the gate gap. Site restrictions are the same as for track sliding gates.
Gates can be automated.

Barrier Arms
Manually operated swing barriers or lifting automatic barrier arms can be operated by swipe card, push button, electronic wire loop set into the ground or from a security gate house.
